  • Nominees Announced for the 2013 Bart Starr Award

    Athletes in Action will recognize the winner during the NFL-Sanctioned 26th Annual Super Bowl Breakfast

    NEW ORLEANS, LA (December 12, 2012)— The 10 nominees for the 2013 Bart Starr Award, which honors one NFL player for outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community, were announced today by Athletes in Action. The nominees include: 

            •   Nnamdi Asomugha, Philadelphia Eagles
            •   Matt Birk, Baltimore Ravens
            •   Chad Greenway, Minnesota Vikings
            •   Matt Hasselbeck, Tennessee Titans
            •   Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
            •   Josh Scobee, Jacksonville Jaguars
            •   Brad Smith, Buffalo Bills
            •   Joe Thomas, Cleveland Browns
            •   Justin Tuck, New York Giants
            •   Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys

    The winner of the Bart Starr Award will be announced during the 26th Annual NFL-Sanctioned Super Bowl Breakfast, hosted by Athletes in Action, on Friday February 1th, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. CST at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans, LA. 

     

    The winner of the Bart Starr Award is voted by NFL players and is named after NFL Hall of Famer, Bart Starr. The award honors the player who best exemplifies Starr’s commitment to family, teammates and the community.

    Athletes in Action will recognize the winner during the NFL-Sanctioned

    25th Annual Super Bowl Breakfast

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 11, 2012) — Athletes in Action announced today that Washington Redskins middle linebacker London Fletcher will be honored with the 2012 Bart Starr Award, which recognizes one NFL player for outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.

    Fletcher will be honored during the 25th Annual NFL-Sanctioned Super Bowl Breakfast, presented by Bob and Kathy Andersen and Companies with a Mission, on Saturday February 4, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. ESTat the Exposition Hall of the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis(1202 East 38th Street).

    Other finalists for the award were Jason Witten, tight end for the Dallas Cowboys, and Nnamdi Asomugha, cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles.

    In addition to the award finalists, the morning will include special guests Jim Caldwell, Tarik Glenn, Jeff Saturday, Hunter Smith, Joe Reitz and other NFL athletes and coaches to be announced. Program highlights include an appearance by several other Bart Starr Award winners in celebration of the breakfast’s 25th anniversary.

    The winner of the Bart Starr Award is voted by NFL players and is named after NFL Hall of Famer Bart Starr. The award honors the player who best exemplifies Starr’s commitment to family, teammates and the community.  Past winners include Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren Woodson, Reggie White and Mike Singletary.

    In his 14th year in the NFL, Fletcher has been active in charitable projects across the country. He founded the London’s Bridge Foundation in 2003, through which he has impacted underprivileged children in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as Washington, D.C., Buffalo, N.Y., and Charlotte, N.C. The foundation runs mentoring programs and charitable giving to support health and fitness, education and leadership programs. He has been involved in the Redskins’ Harvest Feast, the “Stuff a Backpack” School Supply Drive, The Children’s Inn and visits to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, among many other projects.
